December is here, and with that comes the holiday cheer and preparations! To make your holiday season even more fulfilling and enjoyable, volunteer and give back to your community! Check out our fun ideas for volunteering for the holiday season, and learn more about some of our favorite organizations with holiday initiatives. One of the organizations highlighted is one that might sound familiar–the Toys for Tots Foundation, a program run by the Marine Corps Reserve.
What is Toys for Tots?
Toys for Tots is an amazing program that aims to collect new, unwrapped toys for children in need during the holiday season. Their primary goal is to “help bring the joy of Christmas and send a message of hope to America’s less fortunate children” through the gift of a new toy.
Last year, Toys for Tots collected and distributed 18 million toys across the country to over 7 million children! When you donate a toy, you impact a life.
“Our Marines together with our tens of thousands of volunteers made a difference in the lives of these children through the collection and distribution of toys and by their selfless personal example,” the organization said. “This community action effort will assist and guide these children, helping them to develop into responsible, productive citizens.”
So how can you help brighten a child’s holiday season?
Find your local Toys for Tots campaign and/or work with your Lion’s Heart group to host a collection drive at your school or neighborhood. Plus, see if a local campaign in your area needs volunteer support! Lending a helping hand can make all the difference in the life of a child this holiday season.
Thank you so much to the Marine Corps Toys for Tots Program, their staff, and all volunteers who work extremely hard in order to bring the holiday joy and hope to economically disadvantaged families.
